California is a rich source of organization with worker co-operatives. You don't have to convince these people of our economic position. Some may be socially progressive but you would still be able to contact them to research local and state policy issues that effect them and build around that.

Re: Outreach Ideas

Hi,

I'm not a fan of this specific outreach strategy.  We have enough trouble convincing conservatives that our distributist ideas are not the same as socialism or communism.  Also, socialism isn't always bad, which is why we aren't Republicans.  Also, lots of Caucasian-Americans already see China as a political enemy, which then occasionally contributes to xenophobia aimed at Asian-Americans that have no current ties with China.

I think that if we were to try to reach minority communities, we should focus on how our social values are more similar to their values than the Democratic Party, while still wanting to have safety nets like medicare and being more open to immigration than Republicans.  Our message should be that we are the pro-family values pro-immigration party.  But honestly, the way to reach any community is through in-person connection / word of mouth, not through random facebook memes or ads.  If you're really interested and don't know where to start, I would post on websites that target Christian minorities, such as Reformed Margins.com.  Someone could write a blog post for them.

I would also say to call minority pastors, but I really struggle with how appropriate it is to use church networks for politics.  So that's why I suggested the blog post idea instead.

Personally, I'm struggling with whether our party really has anything to offer anybody at this point, so maybe a phone call would be more appropriate if it was along the lines of "We're trying to form a party that is socially conservative but believes in government safety nets.  Based on your experience with x community, how could our party serve your needs?"  And then let the other person talk about what they would like to see from such a political party and what issues matter to them.

I could do a Zoom meeting if we actually get one started.  I think once a month (or less) would be a good frequency.  I live in San Francisco.

Re: welcome!

I am so proud of me! I actually did the ‘share screen’ zoom thing last night and it went off without a hitch!

So.. I am going to upgrade my little baby 🖥 MacBook Pro this weekend to something fresher and more powerful since there is a good chance my kids will be doing distance learning this fall.

And that means I will be better equipped for Zoom meetings or even those rooms on Facebook being advertised.

Re: welcome!

Skylar Covich

Mark, we did end up getting a fourth delegate! I'm afraid that there
are still a lot of announcements made on Facebook first. There are now
85 voting members throughout the state, which means people who have
donated to the party within the past year, but there are hundreds more
mailing list subscribers. There are 5 candidates for delegate, meaning
that only one person will actually lose, which is slightly awkward in
its own way.
You were given a list of mailing list subscribers for your area, which
was not the entire Bay Area if I recall.
Desmond is maintaining a statewide list, so perhaps if you email him
directly at chair@ca.solidarity-party.org he could get you an updated
one. As with Sacramento, there have been efforts to get a meeting in
the East Bay but they kept falling through. We definitely have a good
LA group.

I'm also curious about our membership. Two years ago I received a list of
13 Bay Area members (though that included Esther in Davis) while organizing
signature gathering for Desmond's gubernatorial campaign. Amar teased us by
saying we could get a 4th California delegate if we could sign up a few more
people. Anybody know how big we are these days? It's hard to plan for the
future when the present is not well understood.

Yes, thanks for your efforts on yard signs! Very important.
Unfortunately with our upstairs apartment, although we'll get a sign,
not many will see it.
